Dopo lo splendido "Vignette ECM 2027", album in piano solo, l'avventurosa pianista Marilyn Crispell questa volta si accompagna in un duo d'improvvisazione con il clarinettista David Rothenberg (ai suoi esordi per ECM). Rothenberg ha studiato con Jimmy Giuffre e Joe Maneri, è attivo come compositore e tra l'altro è conosciuto come scrittore e naturalista. Tra i suoi libri ci sono "Why Birds Sing" e "Thousand Mile Song" (uno studio sulla musica delle balene); qui i titoli dei brani rimandano ad un mondo naturale come "The Hawk and the Mouse", "Owl Moon" and "Still Life with Woodpeckers".
