Questo disco di grande interesse comprende una serie di belle opere orchestrali composte da Sir Peter Maxwell Davies all’inizio degli anni Novanta. Il “poema coreografico” The Beltane Fire mette a confronto la concezione austera di un pastore anglicano con le tradizioni pagane delle Isole Orcadi. Basato sul tema scottante dell’inquinamento ambientale, The Turn of the Tide si conclude con «una danza trionfale di tutta la creazione», mentre la Threnody e la Pavan sono commoventi tributi dedicati a persone che rivestirono un ruolo di grande importanza nella vita del compositore inglese.
